The wheel truing and hub centering weren't in particularly bad condition,
but the front hub had some play and felt like it was running low on grease,
so I'm doing a grease job without a full cleaning.
As soon as I spun up the rear hub, I could tell
that it was going to need a complete overhaul.

The grease in the ratchet section of the freebody is dirty,
but the bearing grease in the hub body itself is still clean.

It's rusted. Pretty much done for.

↑Like this
The balls have rusted from water intrusion, and there's some secondary rust on the ball races too.
That would be bad enough on its own, but this was the first time I've seen
clear pitting on a silver one (Gingwan bearing).
It wasn't something grease could fix, so I replaced
the entire bearing set on the left side.

It's hard to tell from the photo, but the bearing color is actually
more of a dull gold, like an old worn five-yen coin.
