Taking Tomorrow Off

Today I got about three phone calls asking "Will you be open tomorrow?"
It's probably because of the typhoon,
but I sensed a general feeling that the prudent thing would be to close,
so I've decided to take the day off.

I painted the Gundam plastic model kit to look like rusted metal
and then did weathering on it.

With weathering, once the brush gets going
I tend to overdo it, so I kept it moderate.
These images so far were taken with my iPhone camera.

From here on are photos from a Ricoh digital camera.

These parts

I painted with a color called Super Titanium 2.
After drying, I use 2000-grit sandpaper,
then repaint again... and I repeat this process many times.
Doing careful painting on something I'm planning to weather—that's exquisite.

These parts I painted with a color called Burnt Iron,

These parts I painted with Super Titanium 2
and then layered with a color called GX Clear Rouge.

Basically those three colors,
though some parts have two or more colors
(only the inside of the verniers got a standard glossy red).
After painting, I assembled it,
then applied weathering only to the Super Titanium 2 painted areas,

The Ricoh digital camera's automatic white balance correction is terrible—
the image suddenly turns yellowish.
That's not really Ricoh's fault so much as my own lack of skill;
I'm just not doing the detailed settings properly.
But the reason I use it anyway is because it's suited for use on construction sites
and it's a model that's tough against drops and rough handling.
I'm satisfied with that aspect.

From here on, this is an old Sony digital camera I used to use.
The claw that holds the battery broke,
and the hinge on the cover for the battery and memory card slot got damaged,
so in the past I've bought the same model four or five times.
No successor model has been released.
There's no other camera in the same price range that can take close-ups
showing fingerprints clearly,
so after confirming that this one could do it,
I decided to buy a Ricoh digital camera.
Whether fingerprints photograph cleanly is an indicator of
whether spoke threads can be captured in focus.

With normal use, the battery slips out
and the power cuts off, so either I have to hold the battery in place with my finger
or insert it straight and then treat it incredibly gently so it doesn't fall out.
It's basically impossible to use as an everyday camera.

The color is very close to what the eye sees.
What's great about Sony cameras is that this happens automatically
regardless of the type of light source.

It's getting bigger.
