Another day working on wheels (and so on).

A customer dropped off the rear wheel from their Nomu Lab Wheel No. 5 (a custom wheel brand).

The brake zone on the rim is worn down, so they'd like it replaced.
It's not catastrophically worn to the point where replacement is absolutely necessary,
but it has definitely developed that telltale curve that suggests replacement is warranted.
Unlike tubular rims, clincher rims experience constant pressure
from the tire pushing outward against the rim from the inside
due to air pressure, so if the rim sidewalls get too thin, they can burst.
Right now, my own Neutron Ultra's front rim actually has brake zone wear that's even worse than this rear wheel.
Looks like the doctor isn't practicing what he preaches.

The rim tape was in "still usable condition as long as we didn't peel it off,"
but since we had to remove it for the job,
it became unusable for reuse.

Transferring the rim over…

Got it built up.

Along with the rim, we've also gone with brand new black aluminum nipples.
