All-black CX-RAY reverse Italian lacing with no spoke nipple welding.

Not using JIS lacing and not welding the spoke nipples is

also why I'm using black nipples from Sapim's 14mm instead of
DT's 12mm aluminum, which I normally
would never use—
because I'm matching the manufacturer's stock specifications.
After building a normal wheel again in a while, I'm convinced that
even if this ZIPP rim
were the most aerodynamic rim in the world,
with all CX-RAY "yonyon" lacing (equal numbers and diameters on both sides)
it could never become a truly great wheel.


A while back (or at least since this year started)
CX-RAY spokes
no longer come with aluminum nipples.
For guys who just use
Sapim's 14mm aluminum nipples as-is (←I'm honestly calling them foolish),
it's basically a price hike,
but our shop doesn't use them unless there's a compelling reason,
so it doesn't matter to us.


The nipples that used to come with spokes
have accumulated enough to... set up a yell... distribute to... the yellow-collared radish
enough that we could set up plenty.
