I Bought Some Veloforte Energy Bars

Trisports started carrying
Veloforte, a British supplement brand,
so
RIMG2044amx17.jpg
I picked up their energy bars in a sampler pack
where you get "one of each flavor."
The mocha flavor (top left in the image) is 255 kcal,
while the others range from 221–238 kcal.

I've actually already tried one bar,
and in terms of past supplements I've used,
it's pretty close to the taste and texture
of American Bonk Breaker energy bars.

To put it in a way more people might understand:
it's like Otsuka's SOYJOY
but with a sticky brown rice syrup mixed in
and a bit firmer.
By the way, SOYJOY is around 140 kcal per bar
depending on the flavor.

The Veloforte I picked up this time
is their energy bar, but they also make
energy chews (gummies), energy gel,
oat bars, protein bars,
and protein powder.

The 6-bar sampler set I bought
has a list price of ¥4,223 (including 8% tax),
so that's ¥703 per bar.
For the non-sampler size—a single flavor in 24-bar packs—
the list price is ¥16,200 (including tax),
which comes to ¥675 per bar.

Pricey, right?
Yeah, I thought so too.
For reference, SOYJOY's list price (including 8% tax)
is around ¥145 per bar depending on flavor,
though street price is a bit cheaper.

About their energy gel: of the 5 flavors available,
Doppio (coffee) and Desto (cherry)
have caffeine listed on the packaging—
each 33g serving contains 75 mg of natural caffeine
derived from guarana.
The manufacturer recommends against these
for children and pregnant women,
and advises not to consume more than 5 per day.
. . . Might be good for all-nighters
on the bike.

For comparison, Tokiwa Pharmaceutical's
Nemnem Taha has 50 ml with 120 mg caffeine,
and Kyokyou Taha has 50 ml with 150 mg caffeine.
Both recommend avoiding large amounts
and sticking to one per day.

The energy gel comes in 24-bar packs
with a list price of ¥12,960 (tax included),
which I believe is ¥12,000 before 8% tax,
making the per-unit price ¥500 before tax.

However, on the wholesaler's consumer site,
the list price shows ¥561/¥510 (tax-included/exclusive),
which would be 10% tax.

I'm not sure which is correct,
but that's roughly the ballpark.

At the time of writing this post,
on Trisports' consumer site,
selecting the Veloforte brand icon from the homepage
and then clicking on energy bars or
energy gel items just takes you to a blank page
saying "No articles registered."
They're still under construction.

Right now, there's no way to reach them
except via direct links, so
I'm posting a link to the Doppio energy gel
(→here).

The "Related Items" section at the bottom of that page
has working links to other Veloforte products
like protein bars and oat bars,
so you can browse the rest of their lineup from there.
