A customer dropped off an FFWD F6R rear wheel with me.
Through Japan's official distributors, FFWD wheels are 100% equipped with DT hubs.
However, when you order online, it's not necessarily a DT hub.

In fact, this one is anFF Yamaguchi FFWD-branded hub.
Even though we call it an "FFWD hub," there are several types depending on grade and generation,
and the freebody specs seem to differ by model.

This hub's freebody was Shimano 10-speed, but
when the customer's bike converted to 11-speed,
the rear wheel ended up sitting unused for over six months.


This is that freebody.
It has a part number "CHO-11 SEN-05," but
that might not be the actual name—it could be an individual manufacturing number.
In that case, identical parts with different numbers could exist.
It's like a frame's serial number.


↑This is a freebody from a T○○ Wi○g hub, and
it's strikingly similar to the one above.
The Wi○g hub comes in type I with a 10mm steel axle
and type II with a 15mm aluminum axle—this is type II.
The part number is "CHO-13 SEN-10".

Pretty similar, huh (deadpan).

Since we're upgrading to 11-speed, the T○○ freebody is naturally Shimano 11-speed.
The waterproof seal in front of the pawls is the same too.
The freebody fit onto the hub body smoothly,
but the right end nut didn't fit.


↑Looking closely, there's a difference in whether the seal's lip
on the inside of the freebody protrudes or not.

When trying to fit the right end nut on the 11-speed freebody,
this flange is too wide and interferes.
It's constantly grinding and rubbing, so

after getting the customer's approval for an irreversible modification,
I filed down the flange on the end nut.
If I didn't, we'd be stuck rebuilding the wheel with a Leaf hub or Evolite hub,
so we absolutely had to solve this.
Also, in my thinking, I didn't believe wheel center would shift with this swap,
but when I checked after the swap, it had shifted slightly.
Whether it was already off or from the swap is untested.

but I suspect that proper shops would think "FFWD hub = the guy who bought it online = no obligation to help,"
so this is something only a disreputable shop like ours could write about.
This case satisfies multiple conditions that would earn me a visit from the thought police,
so I plan to pack my things and lay low until the heat dies down.
