Another day, another wheel (and so on).

I was asked to reassemble the rear wheel of Nomu Lab Wheel #1 with its PowerTap hub.
We're reassembling it into Nomu Lab Wheel #5, but there's nothing wrong with the rim or wheel itself—
apparently the customer just felt like going with #5 at this stage of life.
The rim from #1 will be reused for another project.

The PowerTap's left and right end caps use a push-fit design, so they come off easily.
Especially when a sprocket is attached, its weight can cause the entire freebody to come loose.
When the customer brought this wheel in, it apparently took a tumble inside the wheel bag
with a hard "thunk."
When a PowerTap hub wheel has a sprocket on it, it might be a good idea to always
run a quick-release through it to keep everything secure.
The state shown in the image above is
positioned carefully for photography, so there are no scratches, but

there are minor scratches from when it dropped inside the wheel bag.
Since there are no dents or deformations, there are no issues with actual use.

↑This is a separate job—a PowerTap hub I overhauled five days ago.
The older silver hub has silver end caps as well, but
this one has black ones.
When I asked the customer about it, they said they dropped and lost the original.
The right cap from the older hub and both caps from the G3 are the same, so I swapped one in.

Looking at the hub bearings, the non-freewheel side was worn, so I replaced it.
The freewheel side I treated with fresh grease.

The tape looked like it was ready to do its job, but

when I peeled back the tape, the magnet popped right off.
Turns out it had been doing its job all along.

I bonded the magnet back in place with adhesive and sealed it with heat-shrink tubing.

The freebody has two bearings inside, but
both are pretty worn out and there's some rust transferred onto the shaft.
Since the freebody is being replaced anyway, there's no problem there.

The hub is clean now.

I also cleaned the 10-speed sprocket.

All assembled.

32-hole, full competition, 3-cross Italian lacing with

nipple ties included.
