Another wheel build today (and so on).

A customer brought me a ZIPP 303 rim.

↑Firecrest.
They sent just the rim, saying their original rear wheel feels a bit sloppy
and they want it rebuilt with an emphasis on solid, crisp feel.

When I shook the rim it rattled,
and pulling it out revealed a nipple washer.
It was probably stuck to the inner surface when the wheel was disassembled
and they didn't notice it.
These come in several different sizes, so

it actually helped me find the closest size to use.
Lucky break—the one I had on hand is a bit longer overall.

Built it.

Evo-Lite hub, 24H, half-competition four-cross lacing... but I won't be tying the spokes. Actually, I'll probably disassemble this whole thing.
There's an uncomfortable compromise in this build,
and the only way to get past it is to rebuild it.
Now that I've written this much,
it's definite, not "probably"—I'm tearing it apart.
I noticed "something" after building it.
More precisely, during the build itself,
but I thought it would disappear once finished (didn't work).
So I'll rebuild it.
Not wasted effort. Once you know about it, you won't make the same mistake again.
Edit: Since time jumped ahead, I put this in a separate post (→here)
