Another day with wheels (etc.).

I received a carbon wheel from a customer to work on.
Out of respect for my contact's work, I won't say which rim brand it is.

There were various things I could nitpick about, but I won't get into the details.
One thing that did catch my attention, within the limits of what I can discuss, was the threadlocker.
This is a thick red liquid—an anaerobic adhesive.
It's excellent in terms of adhesive strength (especially important since spoke threads are fine diameter)
but it has two problems: it doesn't flow well into the threads,
and when it hardens, it gets rock solid.
So readjusting trueness means the nipple is nearly impossible to turn,
and once the thread does move, the threadlocker loses almost all its effect.
It's really not ideal for spoke and nipple threads.
If you're absolutely never going to readjust the wheel after building it,
then I suppose it works. But that's a big if.

The inside hole of the nipple doesn't go straight to the threads.
There's a section with a larger diameter than the spoke.

↑Once hardened, the threadlocker only works in this section.
So when readjusting, sure, the initial movement is stiff,
but if the adhesive never reached the threads in the first place, it's basically useless afterward.

The hardened red adhesive won't provide any holding power going forward.

Anyway, I got it built.
