Another day with wheels (and so on).
A customer brought in some carbon wheels for me to work on.
Out of respect for the builder's work, I won't say which rim it is.
There are various things I could critique, but I won't get too detailed about them.
One thing that caught my attention, within what I can discuss, was the threadlocker.
It's a viscous red liquid anaerobic adhesive.
It's excellent as an adhesive (especially for spokes, since the threads are so fine)
but it doesn't flow well into the threads,
and when it hardens, it gets way too hard. That's the problem.
So when you need to readjust the wheel later—true the wheel, for example—it's first of all difficult to turn the nipple.
And once the thread does turn, the threadlocker basically stops working after that.
It's not really suited to the characteristics of spoke-to-nipple threads.
If you absolutely never need to readjust the wheel after building it,
then I suppose it's okay. But...
The hole on the inside of the nipple
doesn't start with threads right away.
There's a section with a slightly larger diameter than the spoke.
↑Once hardened, the threadlocker only works in this section.
So when readjusting, it's just hard to get it moving initially,
but after that, if the adhesive didn't flow into the threads, it's pretty much useless.
↑It didn't flow into the threads.
The hardened red adhesive won't provide any holding power going forward.
Anyway, I got it built.
Tni Wing Hub 20H CX-RAY spokes, radial lacing.
Before the rebuild, it was laced counter-cross.
I'm shooting at an angle where you can't see the hub name
because I'm also hiding the rim sticker.
Here we go!

This time, the discretion was really strong, and this was the limit I could show.
The discretion has the ability to "stop 100% of shots from outside the penalty area"
though I have a feeling there are many cases where it didn't stop them—
but those were all classified as shots from inside the area.
