Another day, another wheel (and so on).

A customer dropped off the rear wheel of what I thought was a Shimano PRORC80.
UPDATE: It's an RC50. Sorry about that, and thanks for pointing it out.
I've corrected the title and post accordingly.
The rider said the wheel felt a bit sluggish,
and asked me to improve it by changing the spokes and lacing pattern.


The spokes were the same on both sides—some Sapim CX whatchamacallit—
and it was laced four-cross.
I'll write a separate post about the CX whatchamacallit stuff since there's a lot to cover.

Not related to the rebuild itself, but
the rim tape width wasn't right, and there were several sketchy spots.

The nipples before the rebuild had
a threadlocker that had strong initial holding power, but
became pretty much useless if you had to readjust later.

↑As you can see, there's no threadlocker at all
between the nipple and spoke threads.

I cleaned up the 12 spokes on the freehub side since I was reusing them.

All laced up.

I laced it with an FH-6600 24H hub, CX whatchamacallit on the freehub side, and CX-RAY half-CX whatchamacallit four-cross with radial lacing on the non-freehub side.
This CX whatchamacallit isn't actually a CX.
The 6600 hub doesn't have the aero slit hole version, so CX won't work on it.

Before the rebuild, it had 16mm brass nipples, but

after the rebuild, I switched to 14mm aluminum nipples.
These come with the CX-RAY.
I thought 12mm nipples (the standard DT size)
wouldn't have much clearance for the wrench, so I went with these instead.
There were nipple washers in use, so I reused them,
but that means the nipples sit about 0.5mm deeper now.
