I received a Ksyrium SLR from a customer for work.
The front wheel was centered perfectly with virtually no runout,
but the rear wheel's center was way off.
The rim was shifted toward the non-freewheel side,
and just tightening the freewheel side nipples wasn't enough to fix it,
so I had to touch the non-freewheel side nipples,
which meant I had to remove the spoke protector ring.

All the contact marks between the ring and spoke heads are concentrated toward the inner edge,
which tells me no truing work was done after the ring was pressed on originally.
