I took a photo because I'd definitely forget a name this long—
a Cosmic came in for service.

In these photos I've removed the tires and such,
but it was clearly brand new and unused.

Using a dishing gauge set with the hub side as reference,
the centering offset was exactly as shown here.
The rear rim was shifted toward the non-freewheel side, which was tough to correct,
but the radial runout was even worse.

Since this wheel was sent in by mail, I didn't do the work in front of the customer.
(That's also why I documented the centering offset photos)
As for the radial runout—
it was bad enough that someone might suspect it happened because of the lateral truing and centering work,
so I chased it down pretty meticulously and got it sorted.

The original state had the rim bouncing up and down eccentrically
in a way that shouldn't be possible for a wheel with equal-number spokes and evenly-spaced rim holes,
but honestly, I think once you mounted a tire and rode it, you probably wouldn't notice.
The truing stand picked it up though, so of course I fixed it.
