The drill whines!
A customer dropped off a pair of SIDI shoes with me.
I can't disclose the shoe model for political reasons.
So I'm just photographing the sole.
One of the LOOK 3-hole mounting points (though nobody really calls it that anymore)
had its threads stripped, so the cleat wouldn't lock in place.
In cases like this, a helicoil insert can fix it,
but the customer didn't know about helicoils—
they just came in to ask if it could be fixed at all.

It's an M5 hole, but I need to drill it out to 5.2mm
to serve as the pilot hole for the helicoil tap.
Drilling through...
I've gotten halfway through, so the hole has a step in it now.
Drilled through to 5.2mm.
The cleat nut was the type that comes out of the shoe,
so I removed it for the rest of the work.
I cut new threads with the helicoil tap and install the helicoil insert.
Fixed!
The threads inside the helicoil are M5,
same as before the stripping, so the cleat bolt threads right back in.
