Rebuilt the Vigor Wheels

Another day with wheels (and so on).

I received a Rolf Prima Vigor wheel from a customer.
It was built with Sapim aero spokes for round-hole rims,
but since these spokes have a greater specific gravity than CX-RAY,
the customer wants the front wheel converted to CX-RAY and the rear wheel rebuilt as semi-competition.

The rear wheel had some lateral runout.
But since I'm taking it apart anyway, it doesn't really matter.
I didn't even check the front wheel.

I got out a big chunk of machining debris.
It's larger than the rim holes, so just shaking it out won't work.

Got it built.

Front wheel is CX-RAY in reverse radial lacing.

The Rolf Prima uses these internal nipples,
and they're unusually long in shape.

The axis of the spoke and nipple is angled relative to the rim,

but the outer hole is perpendicular to the rim, so
as a result of forcing a tool to grip it,

↑the spoke develops a habit of bending just before the threaded section.
Given that the front wheel is a wide-flange hub,
building with the original nipple was a bit tight,
so while not strictly necessary, I used internal nipples from a pillar maker
with the same hex dimensions but shorter length.
As a result, the spoke length is about 5mm shorter than before the rebuild.

The rear wheel was simply converted to semi-competition spokes; I didn't change the lacing pattern.
It's still crossed radial on the freewheel side and reverse crossed on the non-freewheel side.
I reused the nipples and matched the spoke length to the pre-rebuild configuration.

Unusually, I'm taking photos with tires on this time.
It's a message for the wheel's customer.
It's built up.

The tire after the rebuild is a Veloflex Corsa 25C,
and based on the tire tread pattern, the label, which only appears on one side, comes on the left.
Looking closely, there are rotation direction markings,
and these match my understanding of the rotation direction, so

this tire has the label on the left side.
Both of them did.
