Shamal Ultra Dark Label

A customer brought in a Shamal Ultra wheel for repair.

Most of the spokes on the freewheel side of the rear wheel have damage.

All the spokes on the Yamaarashi side have scrape marks, and

the ones gouged too deeply need to be replaced.

Also, regardless of direction, some spokes are bent,
and the one in the image above is in the opposite Yamaarashi direction.

As for how this happened,
the customer was trying to clean the rear derailleur pulley
and removed the chain's missing link,
but when reinstalling it, the inner pin didn't engage properly,
so the next day while riding, the chain snapped on a climb,
the chain bounced back and jammed in the rear derailleur,
and the customer kept pedaling,
which tore off the rear derailleur along with the frame's rear end.
The derailleur then got tangled up inside the rear wheel.
The frame, by the way, is totaled.

It's fixed now.

In the end, I replaced 8 spokes.
The top 3 spokes in the image were replaced mainly due to spoke damage,
and the bottom 4 were replaced mainly due to spoke bending,
but both are damaged in multiple ways.
One more spoke ended up in the spoke-dedicated trash bin,
so it's already gone by the time I took this photo.

This repair used up a bit of my spoke inventory, but
conveniently, right in the middle of this job,
the Shamal spoke supplier called me,
and I was able to order more spokes right away over the phone.
"The Shamal Mille front hub has small-diameter bearings so small-diameter flanges,
so the spoke length is different from the traditional Shamal Ultra—how about that too?"
they said, with that kind of vibe like upsizing to a large fries for free right now,
so I ordered those as well.
I'm sure there'll be a day when I'll use them.
