I usually wear Merrell Jungle Mocs as my everyday shoes,
but a shoe-loving customer told me "You should try buying Danner Lights,"
so
I bought them.
Danner Lights (model name) by Danner (the maker).
They're finished in nubuck, but I don't yet know if I'll regret the maintenance hassle.
The comfort is excellent.
They feel heavy when you hold them (though for this type of shoe, they're actually light, true to the name),
but it's strange how that doesn't feel the case once you're wearing them.
Addendum: A shoe-loving customer told me to write more, so here goes.
He said once I confirmed the size in-store, I should buy genuine pairs as cheap as possible on eBay
and not buy at the shop. But doing something so unethical like that
will catch up with me someday—that's a small principle I follow.
Also, out of consideration for the store clerk who helped me properly with sizing,
I bought them at the shoe shop.
My Vans slip-ons were falling apart too, so I told the clerk the size and color and asked them to find the same pair.
But there was no stock in black/black or black/white,
so I went with navy/white, which was in stock.
Since I don't have strong feelings about color,
this choice was also a way of thanking the clerk
for turning the backroom upside down searching for me.
Further addendum: The shoe-loving customer has now ordered me to buy Russell Moccasins.
I'm rejecting this because I want a Danner Postman instead.
