A customer dropped off a front wheel they'd had me build just the other day.
It's an Evolight hub 24H, black CX-RAY outpoke radial laced front wheel, but you know...
That rim with no holes on the outer edge except for the valve hole.
They got their hands on another front wheel from the same manufacturer with the same rim height (but this one has rim holes on the outer edge)—a 20H with silver spokes. And they hit me with the crazy request: rebuild it as a 24H silver spoke rear wheel.
If you think of a "rim swap" the way a hermit crab changes shells,
then this job is more like a hub and spoke transplant—
basically another hermit crab's guts showing up out of nowhere
and hijacking the shell.
Rear hub: "WHOOOA this rim is OURS!!!"
Front hub: "NOOO we're getting taken over!!!"
Front hub: "No way I'm losing this!!!"

The reason I did it this way wasn't for a photogenic blog moment...
it was because this is the best method to swap the hub and spokes while avoiding dropping a nipple down inside the rim.
