Racing Zero 2WAY-FIT

A customer brought in a Racing Zero for repairs.

Starting with the front wheel.
Apparently it got tangled with a mama-chari (utility bicycle) and something wrapped around the rim.
The bike shop near the customer's place (about 600km from here)
told them the rim needed replacing,
but since there was no crash or buckling, that's extremely unlikely.
I can't believe such nonsense still passes for legitimate advice.

The customer came from quite far away
because they were visiting their parents' place back in Osaka.

There's clear deformation on the spoke right next to the rim hole at the valve hole,
and from the rotation direction, this was the first impact,

The adjacent spoke (at the next rim hole, not the next spoke on the same side)
also has complex deformation near the rim.

The customer also asked me to do some cosmetic work while I was at it,
and luckily the spoke right next to the valve hole happened to need replacing anyway,
so that saves some effort.

There was white powder packed in the rim holes,
signs of early-stage corrosion, but barely even that,
and when I went to adjust the wheel, not a single nipple was stuck.

All fixed.

I didn't put marker tape on the red spoke since it's obvious it was replaced.
I thought only the red spoke and the adjacent one needed replacing,
but I found another spoke that needed replacement at a different position.
By the way, the rim itself has no issues at all.

The red spoke is at the rim hole right next to the valve hole.
Thanks to the cosmetic work,
the style rating is now ☆☆☆☆☆.
The number of stars has no basis, and I'm also unclear on what the maximum is supposed to be.

As for the one at the different position,
DSC02595amx14.jpg
there were marks like something had slid across the spoke.

Next, the rear wheel.
There were no spokes that needed replacing, but I did the cosmetic work to match the front wheel.
The black spokes I removed can be used for repairs, so I'm giving them to the customer.
Since we're replacing them for appearance alone even though there's no functional need,
the style rating is now ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆.
