Built the rear wheel for Nomu Lab Wheel #8

Another day with wheels (abbreviated hereafter).

I built the rear wheel for Nomu Lab Wheel #8.

silver aluminum nipples.
The customer who ordered this wheel
already has a Nomu Lab Wheel #8,
but swapping tubeless tires at a cyclocross race venue
isn't practical, so
they ordered an additional one to pre-mount with a different tire pattern
and swap it out when needed.
I made the nipples silver
to distinguish this one from the one they already own.

This wasn't something I asked about on my own, but
at Kansai Cyclocross on the uphill after the downhill section at Karasumaru camber,
the Nomu Lab Wheel #8 apparently rolls noticeably better
than the Tni lightweight low-profile complete wheel, the Climbsmith.
Even including the tubular tire, the Climbsmith's rim weight is far lighter overall,
but apparently when you push hard, the power feels like it's slipping away.
Also, they bought the current Ultegra complete wheel
WH-R8170 C36 tubeless,
but especially the rear wheel is distinctly sluggish, so
I suggested rebuilding it with us.
However, when they mounted the currently used nominal 32C
cyclocross tubeless tire and pressurized it after mounting on the wheel,
the actual tire width exceeded 33mm,
which violates the regulations and couldn't be used,
so they were talking about selling it on auction.

Now that disc road rims have gotten wider,
many 32C tubeless tires mounted on them exceed 33mm in width,
which is odd—nowadays cyclocross rims are actually narrower than road bike rims.
So for cyclocross, you have to actively search for
rims or wheels that are "somewhat wide" with internal widths down to about 20mm.
It's been over 10 years since 35mm width tires were banned
from upper cyclocross categories,
but in my personal opinion, there's a non-zero chance
that regulations could loosen to allow 35mm width
to enable wheel sharing with road bikes.
Also, if they sell the WH-R8170 now,
especially after next year when prices are likely higher,
they almost certainly won't be able to buy it back at the original price.
Furthermore, the WH-R8170 rim has
no low spoke tension limit and
fairly excellent height/weight ratio,
so it would be useful as material
for building a wheel with the Nomu Lab Wheel #8 rim swapped
for the WH-R8170 rim.
For these three reasons,
I don't recommend parting with the WH-R8170 they already own.

Completely beside the point,
but we happen to now have in stock Nomu Lab Wheel #8
spokes/nipples in
silver/silver, black/silver, and black/black combinations.
