Wheels again today (and so on).
A customer left me a complete set of Gokiso wheels—
front and rear—to work with.
The rim sticker has been peeled off,
but given the unusually thick bead hook width
that was custom-ordered from Equinox,
there's no doubt this is a Gokiso-branded rim.
Equinox rims have a label embedded in the outer circumference
showing the year they came out of the mold,
and a sticker on the rim side near the valve hole—
on the left as you face it—showing the year
as a finished product ready to ship.
Usually these two dates match, or the latter is one year later,
but on this rim the first was 2015 and the second was 2016.
The customer wanted me to use just the hub to build
a Nomu Lab Wheel No. 5,
and they wanted it with a silver rim.
The AL22 silver rim has been out of stock for a long time,
and while we had 20H in our inventory,
the 24H was on backorder with no clear delivery date.
So I told the customer that if it took too much longer,
I'd temporarily build the rear wheel with a black rim at no charge
(we could swap it to silver once it arrives).
But the silver rim came in the other day.
Built it.
I peeled off the rim sticker,
but since the 20H came from our own stock,
it's the old spec with
"the sticker with red color already applied from the start."
As for the new spec of "we'll include a monotone sticker with the rim
so apply it yourself if you want"—see here
20H CX-RAY outpoke radial laced.
This hub has pillars stretching from the hub body
like windswept pine trees, holding the flange up off the shell.
So even if I went with inpoke radial lacing,
I don't think bearing side play would develop
from hub flange deformation due to spoke tension,
but I decided against it this time.
The original build was outpoke radial too.
I thought of it before building the wheel.
