Snail Snail

Two weeks ago on Wednesday, someone asked me to take them somewhere before their triathlon in Kaike, so I ran a course that goes from Kimi Pass heading out of Osaka via the Kongo Tunnel and then back into Osaka.
I was also doing research for an article about the behavior of SRAM's Quarq.
Oh, by the way, that person placed 5th in their age group at the Kaike event.

So, right after entering the Wakayama side of Kimi Pass, the Lawson that was there years ago has long since closed, so I stopped at another Lawson a bit further down, but

from the edge of that parking lot, there's something on the tip of a tree branch.
It's roughly in the center-upper part of the image.

Zooming in...

How on earth did this guy get all the way up there.
But apparently this isn't particularly unusual, because

on the next tree over

there was another one doing the same thing.

Last Thursday morning I climbed up the Osaka side of Kazahuki Pass, and at the entrance to the tunnel at the summit, on the nameplate

there were 3 snails on the right side.

And that wasn't all — looking more closely

given the season, they were everywhere.

Whoa! There's even one right under my feet!
I'd love to pour some water on them, but my disc road bike is the only one where I fill the sole bottle cage with a tool canister when riding solo, so I'm not carrying any water.
And even if it's not raining, as long as I'm riding at my own pace, I don't really get that thirsty, and if I think I need it, I can just stop at a vending machine.
