G540 sir/madam

A customer brought in a DT (gravel-ready complete wheelset),
the G540 rear wheel for repair.

This image is from after the repair work.
There was a pretty noticeable runout, and the spoke
directly below that problem area had been deformed
as if it got caught up in something while the wheel was spinning.

Since it's a DT wheel,
the spokes were DT's #14 black Champion spokes.
I repaired it with the same spoke.

Bending a single spot can be done by hand,
but bending two spots this close together is impossible—
it must have taken considerable force.

Up to this point,
there wasn't much value as a blog post,
so I didn't bother taking photos for an article.
But this time there was something extremely rare,
so I decided to write it up.

Since the bent part of the spoke was close to the rim,
the nipple was also deformed.

I was planning to reuse the nipple and just replace the spoke,
but when I noticed the nipple's rotation was eccentric
and the sliding resistance against the rim hole was too great,
that's when I realized the deformation.

Just to replace one nipple, peeling off the rim tape
would be a hassle,
and it would waste money unnecessarily, so

I took a Zonda/Racing 3 nipple guide part
and attached it to the new nipple,
then used a magnet to pull it into place.

The edge of the rim hole was slightly gouged,
but since there were no cracks or anything like that, there's no problem.
