I Bought a Hose Cutter (About Jagwire - Part 1)

The only distributor in Japan that carries Topeak recently
RIMG9778amx16.jpg
started seriously carrying Jagwire,
and their catalog arrived.

※The spelling style I used has no particular significance.

Anyway (though actually it's related),
I recently bought a SRAM brake hose cutter.
The tax-included list price is ¥3,800, so the price comes out to a clean number—
which means the pre-tax list price is ¥3,454.545454....

Snap!
My old hose cutter (not a SRAM) had clearly lost its edge,
so this was definitely a good purchase.

It's obviously the same manufacturer!
Jagwire makes one too!
And the tax-included list price is ¥1,980!
Basically half the price of SRAM!
Ugh, that's frustrating!

But there was some good news.
Spare blades that SRAM doesn't advertise (at least not from Japanese distributors)
are sold in a 5-pack for a tax-included list price of ¥1,100.

↑This is a different tool,
but SRAM's road brake hoses use
a barb (insert) with a Torx hole that screws in,
so you don't need this one.

For Jagwire,
they call it the Sport Needle Driver,
tax-included list price ¥3,080.
The name has "Sport" attached because there's also a separate
Pro Needle Driver model,
and this is the lower-grade version in comparison.
It's the same naming scheme you see on frames and wheels—
SL, Pro, Elite, Comp, and all that.

Anyway (though it's actually related),
↑this is SRAM's
Hydraulic Hose Barb Driver tool,
tax-included list price ¥5,400.
