Previously, I investigated the specific gravity of sealants from Stans, Caffélatex, and Imaje
and within the range of these three companies
the result was
「roughly 1g per 1ml」

but the other day when checking a wheel,
a customer brought in Panaracer sealant,
so when using it, I asked if I could
weigh 50ml of it.

I poured in about 50ml of sealant.
26g — very lightweight, but...
I shook the container by accident and
the sealant liquid frothed up
and didn't settle in a short time, so
I wasn't able to measure it accurately in liquid form,
and since the sealant belonged to the customer,
I stocked some for verification testing.
When I opened the lid, the dried sealant
had formed a membrane and stretched to a certain length.
I carefully poured 50ml in liquid form.
It is indeed lighter
than the three sealants from the linked post.
I poured the sealant back from the measuring cup into the container.
Then I left this measuring cup...
sitting for several hours at room temperature.
When I pinched the edge of the dried sealant with tweezers,
I could see that the sealant had formed a membrane.
When I pulled and peeled away the membrane,
the tension snapped and it clumped together.
In the image above, I didn't roll it with my fingertips.
With tubeless-ready tires from Veloflex or Vittoria
that have open casing on the tire sidewalls,
depending on the type of sealant used,
when left sitting overnight in contact with the ground,
moisture from the sealant can seep out
from the tire sidewall,
leaving puddles on the floor.

even though rubber is technically sitting on the tire sidewall,
for tires that leak air,
membrane-forming type sealants might be
more suitable than
liquid-maintaining type sealants.
