Wheels again today (and so on).

The front and rear wheels have different rims,
but since I use them as a pair,
I'm splitting this into front and rear posts.

The rim is a GP4 with the red label.

Since I had prepared a Record front hub,
I decided to replace the front wheel too.
When I checked the spoke length,
it showed a 1mm difference,
but in reality it was about 0.3mm different—
it just crossed the rounding boundary
so it showed up as a 1mm difference.
So I decided to reuse the spokes.
I'll reuse the inpokes as inpokes,
and the outpokes as outpokes.


The hub flange bore a single trace
(since a wheel's build history
isn't necessarily limited to just one rebuild)
showing marks from Italian lacing.
I'll follow these inpoke marks
to build the wheel.

I removed just the inpokes
and cleaned them up since
the spoke heads were dirty.

I transferred the inpokes to the Record hub.

I also cleaned the outpokes.

It's built.

but got new nipples.

Looking in through the valve hole, I wanted to align the hub body phase as closely as possible with the grease hole,
but I prioritized matching the inpoke marks on the hub flange,
so it's a bit off.
The ring on the grease hole cap technically fits at any phase,
but since there's a protrusion on the inside too,
it only sits perfectly in one position.

The bearing adjustment locknut was cracked and broken.

↑This is a 2001 spare parts catalog,
but when I checked, the FH-RE028 had been discontinued.

Fortunately, the shop had one in stock, so we're good this time.
