I Customized My Friend's Scooter Mirror

There's a master of an izakaya
(who I guess counts as a regular customer of mine)
that I stop by sometimes
(→see here)
who commutes to work on a 50cc scooter
for shopping runs from home and getting to the restaurant,
but he only had a side mirror mounted on the right side.

While there's no legal issue with it,
I was genuinely concerned about safety, so
I took it upon myself to add a left mirror for him some time back
(the scooter stays parked in a hallway inside the building during work).

The design was this thing where, starting from a V-sign or peace sign,
you fold down the index finger, making this
×UC× symbol(← the opposite of what's normally censored),
with a round mirror embedded on the back of the hand.
Apparently, while waiting at red lights, people would loudly say
things like "What the hell is that, so lame."

That left side mirror eventually met its end
when a drunk guy stumbling out of another izakaya in the same building
got fed up with it for some reason(I understand the feeling)
and bent the mounting bracket.

This time I made a second-generation version
and snuck it onto his bike again without asking.

I degreased the body and sprayed surfacer on it.
The original color is black plastic.

After the surfacer dried,
I sprayed it with a matte white.
The image above was taken right after spraying,
so it looks glossy, but

hung it up to dry...

Once it dried, it looked like this.
It has kind of a plaster-like finish.

At this stage, it kind of looks like the hand of that
North American rodent species that spread worldwide,
the Florida copyright mouse(→see here),
but that guy only has four fingers for drawing purposes.

From this state, I added one more step
to make it "friend" spec...

and installed it.

The "friend" mark from the manga "20th Century Boys"
has the index finger raised,
if I remember right.

Since I only thought about how it looks
when viewed straight-on,

↑when you look at the textured surface from an angle,
it looks like this.

~About removal~
If you don't like it, you're welcome to take it off,
but if you do, please refer to the installation method below
and work in reverse order.

I applied lipstick-type high-strength threadlocker generously
to the threads
and tightened the hex nut as much as possible without bottoming it out.

After that, I filed down the corners of the hex nut grip area
to round them off.
