A customer left me a rear wheel built with a PowerTap 32H hub for service.

Looking at the rim—that joint seam workmanship is unmistakably Mavic.
Based on the height, shape, and the eyelet-less design, it's a CXP23.
Normally they cover this up with a sticker here,
but once you peel it off, you see what's underneath.
I say "once you peel it off" because
Mavic rim stickers basically never come off naturally,
and the owner of this wheel is probably
someone who can't afford it being publicly known that they're using Mavic.
That's why I think they peeled the sticker.

Fully Campagnolo Record laced Italian style.
The inpoke on the freewheel side showed damage from chain drop,
and the rim's brake zone was pretty heavily worn,
so I decided to rebuild everything except the hub.
The rim specs were flexible,
but since they said "prioritize engagement" and "weight isn't a big concern,"
I went with Nomu Lab Wheel #1 instead of #5.


I peeled back the bearing seals and greased the hub,
and gave it a clean too.
It came with a Shimano freebody,
but they're probably switching to Campagnolo.
The PowerTap hub doesn't shift its center when you swap freebodies,
so no issues there.

Got it built.

Semi-Campagnolo 48-hole laced with tying.
The non-freewheel side came so tight I almost didn't need the tie,
but I did it anyway.

↑Because it's tangent-laced with large flanges,
the final cross comes way out toward the rim.
So the tying effect becomes really significant here.
For example, with 2-cross lacing, that final cross (first crossing) sits
pretty close to the flange,
so you can't reduce spoke deformation much beyond the crossing.
This wheel is the opposite.
Everything inboard of the final cross is basically fixed,
so in terms of spoke deformation alone,
it acts like it has super-large flanges.
