Built Nomu Lab Wheel #1 with PowerTap Hub

Another wheel day (and so on).

A customer dropped off a rear wheel built with a PowerTap 32H hub.

As for the rim, the joint finish is unmistakably Mavic.
Based on the height, shape, and the spec without eyelets, it's a CXP23.
Normally they hide this with a sticker here,
but once you peel it off, you see this.

I say "once you peel it off" because
Mavic rim stickers rarely peel off naturally,
and I suspect the owner of this wheel
is someone in a position where it shouldn't be openly known
that they're using Mavic, so they peeled it off.

It's laced fully Comp 36-hole Italian pattern.
The freewheel side spokes are scarred from chain drops,
and the rim's brake zone is quite worn,
so we're rebuilding it with everything new except the hub.
The rim didn't really matter, but
since they wanted "good engagement priority" and "not too concerned about weight,"
we decided to build it as Nomu Lab Wheel #1 rather than #5.

I peeled back the bearing seals and greased up the hub,
and cleaned it too.
The freewheel body has a Shimano mount,
but they'll probably swap it for Campagnolo.

With PowerTap hubs, swapping freewheel bodies doesn't shift the center,
so there's no particular issue.

Got it built.

Semi-Comp 48-spoke laced with a tie.
The non-freewheel side came up so tight tie might not have been necessary,
but I did it anyway.

↑With a large-flange tangent lace,
the final cross ends up pretty far out on the rim.
So the tying has a massive effect.

For instance, with a 2-cross, the final cross (that's the first crossing)
is pretty close to the flange,
so it doesn't reduce spoke deformation in the outer rim much.
This wheel is the opposite.
Everything inboard of the final cross becomes nearly immobile,
so in terms of spoke deformation alone,
it's like you've got a super large-flange hub.
