Standard G3

A customer dropped off a lightweight G3 with me.

Apparently they botched a bunny hop, buckled the wheel, and ended up with the rim side bulging out.
Let's agree not to use emergency maneuvers like that as regular tricks.
And honestly, you shouldn't be doing that kind of thing on a lightweight bike in the first place.
Depending on the damage, it might not be repairable...

If it turns out to be unfixable, they're planning to buy a new Colima (Japanese wheel brand) rear wheel, so
yeah, that's not happening. Let's buy a Colima!

...But they asked if there's any way to salvage it, so I figured I'd at least take a look.

↑The rim's brake zone is bulging out.

↑Rather than bulging, it's more accurate to say
the rim tape has delaminated.

First, I fixed this.

The photos are kind of hard to see because of the angle,
but the red boxes show the same spot.
You can still tell the gap is closed now, though...

After applying some mysterious substance X,

I ground it down flush with the rim.

↑This is what it looks like from above

After mounting the tire and adjusting the brake clearance, I tested it out,
and I can't even tell where the bulge was anymore, so
I think we're good this time.
Missed my chance to sell a Colima.
