Wire Wrapping Ailment

The wire wrapping soldering I do all the time—

To keep the wire wrapping from coming loose, I press the wire firmly against my thumb pad with each wrap.
Because of that, I always have these tiny cuts on my fingertip—like I've sliced off a thin layer of skin with a utility knife—
but lately they've started to hurt.
This has never happened before.
I've tried all sorts of things—finger cots, sewing thimbles, bandages—
and I finally seem to have found an answer of sorts.

Usually I put off the wire wrapping because we've run out of materials or to catch the last train home,
but recently I've been postponing it because the wire digging into my finger has been too painful to work through.
