WH-9000-C24-TL Customer Wheel

A customer brought in the rear wheel from a 9000 tubeless wheelset for repair.

It got damaged in a crash and developed runout, so they took it to a nearby shop.
They said they did what they could, but apparently they think the rim might be bent.
The customer doesn't trust that diagnosis, which is why they brought it to us.

↑The wheel center isn't even straight. This is usually the result of someone obsessing over lateral runout correction only, but in this case the lateral runout wasn't even fixed properly. Before I start work, I have the customer check the wheel on the truing stand so they can see how much runout there actually is.

I got the center dialed in and the runout corrected. At least there wasn't severe radial runout. Don't blame the rim for lateral runout you couldn't fix due to your own sloppy work. Besides, you didn't even convince the customer.

The lateral runout is now clean enough that you can see the wavy brake zone that couldn't be corrected—it doesn't rub under the nipple, but just barely drags in the gaps. This took a fair amount of work time, but more of it went into undoing the previous technician's mistakes one by one than into the final runout correction itself.
