Shamal Ultra 2WAY-FIT Rear Wheel

A customer brought in the rear wheel of a Shamal Ultra for repair.

I suspect it was a chain drop, but every spoke on the drive side has damage,
and some are bent.

Another shop apparently did what they could to straighten it,
saying they couldn't do any more,
but there's still plenty of lateral runout we can chase down,
and when I checked the rim centering with the gauge at several points, I got the same result each time.
This tells me that while there is some lateral runout on both sides,
the rim is indeed shifted to one side overall.
Since significant lateral runout can make it seem like the worst spot is right where you happen to measure,
I checked at several positions.

I mention this occasionally, but
if the phrase "we can't do any more" were actually true,
there would be no reason for customers to bring wheels to our shop.

Of the seven spokes on the drive side,

these three needed to be replaced, so

I replaced them.

In a set of G3 spokes unrelated to the replaced ones,
there are strangely two locations that are excessively loosened,
and when I check radial runout, only two adjacent sets out of the seven G3 sets are bulging outward.
It's obvious when you look at it on the truing stand gauge,
and you can clearly see it when you spin the wheel—the rim pulses.
To be clear, this radial runout existed before I replaced any spokes.
I'd love to say the radial runout appeared as a result of focusing too hard on lateral truing,
but the truth is the lateral truing itself was never done properly in the first place.

I didn't ask the customer which shop did this play-at-work,
so I don't know which one it was,
but I did find a certain "mark" that would make it obvious to whoever touched this wheel.
It's not appropriate to mention that, so I won't.

By the way, the Mega G3 hub flange catches the non-drive-side spokes
from inside the flange, so
unlike previous hubs, replacing non-drive-side spokes doesn't require
the hassle of first removing the overlapping drive-side spokes.

For some reason I suddenly felt like talking about that.
Huh? There's something stuck on the hub shell (deadpan).

↑It seems to be getting some use.
