Campagnolo and Fulcrum Aluminum Spokes Have Arrived

Campagnolo and Fulcrum aluminum spokes have arrived.

There are Racing 3 spoke kits (one wheel's worth per box) mixed in,
DSC00436amx12.jpg
but most are aluminum spokes for Racing Zero and Shamal Ultra,
individually packaged one per box.
At retail price, roughly 2,000 yen per spoke, 80 spokes, so about 160,000 yen worth.
If I stock them in this condition, they take up a lot of space
and aren't immediately usable, so I need to sort them.

The spoke is R0R-SB01, and since the stamp is "three vertical lines," I cut off the box label
and apply a sticker with "|||" drawn on it to manage them.

Spokes with the same stamp are the same length even if the brand is different.
For example, the Shamal Ultra WH-107SHB also has "three vertical lines,"
but Campagnolo's "three vertical lines" come in three colors: black, titanium gray, and gold,
and Fulcrum's "three vertical lines" come in three colors: black, red, and silver.
These are interchangeable cosmetically.

The spoke R0-118B has a "70" stamp on it.
It means Racing Zero 118 Black, and the suffix is the color code number, but

The spoke R0-118N also has "70" stamped on it the same way.
The "N" at the end stands for Night, which means
this is a spoke kit for Racing Zero Night,
and the difference between B and N isn't in the spokes themselves, but

DSC00441amx12.jpg
in the color of the included nipples.
The current Shamal Mille and Racing Zero Night models
come with black aluminum nipple specifications.

DSC00444amx12.jpg
WH-205SHB are the current Shamal Ultra front spokes,
WH-105SHM are the current Shamal Mille front spokes.
Also, as you can see from the image above, the country of manufacture for the spokes
appears to be transitioning from Italy to Czech Republic.

DSC00445amx12.jpg
WH-205SHB is "three diagonal lines" spokes + silver nipples,
WH-105SHM is "69" spokes + black nipples, and
since "///" and "69" have the same spoke length and the same thread length,
they could be treated as the same spoke without issue,
but the reason for the different stamps is unclear.

DSC00539amx12.jpg
The original Shamal Mille front spoke
WH-005SHM has "two horizontal lines side by side," but
the overall spoke length is the same as WH-105SHM.

DSC00540amx12.jpg
The difference is in the nipple. Recent aluminum spoke nipples
have nylon locking inserts to prevent loosening,
so the spoke thread length is slightly longer.

WH-208SHB, the current Shamal Ultra rear right spoke, taken out of its box

DSC00448amx12.jpg
contained three types: "one diagonal line," "67," and "69."
The "/" is the Shamal Mille rear right spoke, and
the spoke itself is the same as "67."
This corresponds to the relationship between "///" and "69" from earlier.

"69" being included is clearly a mistake.
It's the current Shamal Mille front spoke.
This doesn't bother me personally,
but if someone ordered exactly the number of spokes they needed, it would be a real problem.
We need to eliminate mistakes like this.

Now I should have in stock almost all varieties of Campagnolo and Fulcrum aluminum spokes.
Not shown in this photo, but I also stock the original Racing 1/Zero tie spokes
and the Racing Zero Competizione red cosmetic spokes.

I said "almost" because I know there are spokes I don't currently stock.
Those spokes aren't tie spokes, and they're not straight like the ones after, either—
they're a third type of aluminum spoke,
and when I saw them for the first time, I nearly lost it.
I'll tell that story another time.
