A customer dropped off a Shamal Ultra front wheel with us.

One spoke was clearly bent, they said.

↑Already removed from the flange — here it is.
As for what caused the bend, since they use it for cyclocross,
there are too many possible causes, so they're not really sure.
It's a 2WAY-FIT rim too,
specifically because they're running tubeless cyclocross tires on it.

Fine mud had worked its way inside the flange ring,
and sand was in the rim too, so I mostly shook it out by spinning the wheel.

It's trued.

↑The replacement spoke

The brake shoes show wear marks from rubbing on the inner rim section, not in the brake zone itself, but...

With cantilever brakes, if you set new brake shoes
to contact the rim perfectly straight when fresh,
and then the brake shoes wear down significantly...

...this is what happens — the shoes wear in a way that makes them rub on the inner edge of the rim.
