A Warrior Transformed in Three Days — How Quickly Things Change

This is basically a continuation of my previous post.
The title is taken from an episode about Lü Meng, a general of Eastern Wu from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms,
though these days it's often quoted as "If a man doesn't see another man for three days, look at him anew."

Anyway, the bamboo grove along the old road at Kimi Pass
tends to have bamboo shoots sprouting this time of year,
and the other day I spotted one that was growing perfectly
(the shape you'd imagine when you hear "bamboo shoot,"
the form everyone would draw if asked to sketch one,
like the ones in that Takenoko no Sato candy).
If I were to harvest it(←though I'm not going to)
it's already past the ideal timing since it's already poking above the soil,
but it looked so cute that I thought
next time I passed by, if I had my digital camera with me,
I'd take a photo of it...

In just a few short days, it had transformed into something sinister-looking.
