Another wheel day (you know the drill).
Built a front wheel with an A23 rim.
Chris King R45 hub, 32H, CX-RAY outpoke radial lacing.
With Chris King and Dura-Ace hubs,
the bearing preload is set on the tight side when the hub's by itself,
but once spoke tension pulls on the flanges, the bearings loosen up naturally
and end up feeling just right on the finished wheel most of the time.
The exception to "most of the time" is
when lateral play develops and you need to readjust the bearing preload mid-build—
but if the hub spins silky-smooth on its own initially,
you'll definitely get play developing as you tension the spokes.
The sticker placement puts the model name on one side opposite the valve
and the maker name on the other side,
so when I build the rear wheel I'll need to match the orientation for consistency.
