Cosmic Pro Carbon UST

A customer brought in a Cosmic Pro Carbon UST for service.

They took it to a nearby shop for wheel truing,
but the shop couldn't get the runout out and said things like "we can't do any more than this,"
so they threw in the towel. The customer said "never mind" and picked it up.
I started with the front wheel, so the rear wheel is still hanging as-is.

From all that wheel truing nonsense, there's a major centering issue.
There's also a noticeable radial runout in one spot, and I can tell exactly what they messed with.
In cases like this, sometimes at least the lateral runout is corrected,
but this time they couldn't even manage that.

There's no possibility the customer is lying about messing up the wheel truing themselves
and blaming it on "the nearby shop doing this to me."
This isn't their first time at our shop—
I remember previous work we've done for them.
By the way, they're coming from quite far away,
from one of the prefectures facing the Japan Sea, outside the Kansai region.

I fixed the radial and lateral runout and centering with mostly spoke tightening.

The spokes have anti-rotation swaging on the hub side,
but even so, the flats can rotate all over the place.
I straightened all of that out too.

The rear wheel showed the common issue from being hung up—the rim drifting toward the non-freewheel side—
but the amount of drift wasn't as bad as the front wheel.
Actually, the amount of drift on that front wheel
I'd say wouldn't even pass Mavic's quality inspection.
