Another day with wheels (and so on).

I received the front wheel of a Nomu Lab Wheel No. 5 from a customer.
It was built more than five years ago,
but since the customer is a competitive rider and uses it regularly including for commuting,
the total usage hours are far longer than most other customers'.
It's true that there are probably more people whose wheels don't get this damaged even after ten years of use.

One spoke has a broken neck, but
this is not the first time this wheel has had that issue.

Separately from that, the brake zone has worn in a circular pattern,
so it was also time to replace the rim.

When viewed straight on with a line drawn,

from an angle it looks like this.
The line that narrows and breaks on the inner side
happened because the brake shoe caught on the black anodized finish
on the inner side of the brake zone.
I said earlier that this is equivalent to more than ten years of normal use,
but I should also state clearly that in addition to that,
the maintenance has been sloppy, such as not removing metal fragments that embedded into the brake shoes.
I'm putting strikethrough on this, but still.
The red aluminum nipples have white rust forming on them, so they can't be reused,
and as for the spokes...

When I put a tool on the nipple and started loosening it,
one spoke suddenly broke,
so I decided to replace all the spokes.
So rather than just transferring the rim, I completely disassembled it first.

It broke in a place different from a typical spoke neck break.

All built.

Leaf hub, 20H, CX-RAY non-drive side radial laced
with red aluminum nipples.
Actually, I also replaced the hub's left and right bearings,
so the only parts carried over from the previous wheel
are the hub body, hub shaft, and left and right axle ends.
Separately from this,
I also replaced the bearings on the rear wheel of Nomu Lab Wheel No. 1.
Of the four, two were judged to need replacement,
and two more looked like they'd fail in the near future if not replaced now,
so in the end all four got replaced with new ones.
Unless the customer tells me "forget it" or
the parts become unobtainable,
I'm going to keep fixing it with an informal warranty discount applied
Come on, break it again. I'll fix it for you.
