Nomu Lab Diary

Air Shipped From Belgium

The wholesaler finally got stock in
of a certain length of silver CX-RAY spokes
that had been out of stock for a long time.
I'd like to say our shop has plenty in stock
even when the wholesaler doesn't... but
our inventory is also running low,
down to barely enough to build one wheel.

And they come with aluminum nipples
in 14mm length, the same number (and color) as the spokes, but

in bags of 20 pieces packed like this

there was a bag with 0 pieces in it.

It's filled with sealed air,
and even when you push it, it won't flatten.
You might think this means we're short one bag's worth of nipples,
but that's not actually the case,
and honestly, even if we were, it wouldn't matter.

Because we don't use them anyway.
They say that when you can plant yellow-neck radishes
in the spare nipples in inventory,
enlightenment in wheel building will be attained.
Just when you think that's the finish line, it turns out to be the starting line.

But this

how much is actually in here?
There was a time in the early days when we used these on Nomu Lab wheels,
and we occasionally use them for repairs on wheels
built with Sapim 14mm aluminum nipples,
which means our purchase history shows
we've ordered CX-RAY spokes in numbers exceeding
the quantity of these nipples.
Plus, this container is "box one"—we've moved on to
box two now and aren't adding new silver nipples anymore.
