Rebuilt Chinese Carbon Rim Wheel (Front Wheel - Part 2)

Another wheel day (etc.).
Continuing from yesterday, I'm rebuilding the front wheel,
but I forgot to take a photo of the whole thing before disassembly.
For details on the work, please check the previous article first.

Like the rear wheel, this one also has a repair history here at the shop.

As usual, next to the valve hole, I've left the final cross left-right pair of 4 spokes
with the nipples completely untightened.
From here I'll pull the nipples out from the rim
and check the original length.
By the way, the nipples on these 4 spokes
are all from pillars with no history of breaking.

The right side is at the slot and flush, while the left side is too short.
The rear wheel had a 4mm left-right length difference,
but the front wheel was 288mm and 290mm—just a 2mm difference.
I'm rebuilding with the original 288mm left side at 290mm,
but even 290mm seems short.
Well, it should reach the slot, and since the nipples will be DT,
the risk of breaking should drop dramatically.

Also, yesterday I cut the rear non-freehub side 290mm down to 288mm,
but if I'd disassembled both wheels at the same time
and used the front wheel right side 288mm on the rear wheel right side,
I could have left 12 spare 290mm spokes,
but I couldn't anticipate that this time.

The original rear right side 286mm 12 spokes and
the original front left side 288mm 12 spokes have been carefully disassembled,
bundled together with the length marked clearly,
and will be returned to the customer.
The 288mm ones can be used as spares—one for the rear wheel right side at just the right length,
and one for the front wheel left side which was originally this length anyway,
so with DT nipples it should barely work.

Built.

Left side is the Pillar square aero spoke
extended from 288mm to 290mm,

right side is 292mm CX-RAY,
and like the rear wheel yesterday, all nipples have been fully replaced with DT black aluminum ones.
Even the nipples that were already replaced—DT at the time of dropoff—
were replaced just to be safe.
The final cross is woven on both left and right sides as it was originally.
I'll do the brasing later.
