Today it's wheels again (and so on).

A customer brought in a rear wheel from a Roval CL40.
It's not the original owner,
but they recently acquired it,
and it doesn't roll well at all, so they asked me to fix it.

It's an older generation model, so it has internal nipples.
It's a 2:1 laced X-pattern,
but instead of 7 pairs 21H, it's 8 pairs 24H.
The spokes are straight-gauge,
and when I measured the butted section with calipers,
it appeared to be 1.8mm diameter,
so I wasn't absolutely certain it was DT Competition spokes...
and thought it might be 1.7mm diameter Competition Race spokes instead,
so I looked it up,
but when I search with the term "CL40 rim brake spokes,"
articles from a blog called Nomu Lab's Diary come up all over the place
and get in the way of my search.
Like I don't already know everything you're writing about.
Stop getting in my way, you idiot.

Even though it's CL grade, the internal nipples are the same
aluminum nipples as the higher-end models, with a spherical contact surface at the rim interface.
The spoke threads aren't visible,
but there's a slight relief dimension on the inner edge,
so there's no problem.

Out of 24H, I loosened 22H of the nipples
in sequence,
and pushed the one nipple I hadn't loosened at all out past the rim.
The spokes look long because the nipples are short,
but when rebuilding, if I used spokes of the same length,
the thread would advance by the amount of additional tension,
which could cause the spoke to bottom out, so I made them slightly shorter.

Built.
