Liner Technique

During a conversation with a customer,
I received an inquiry saying
「The wire lead on the back of the BB is short, and the frame is interfering with the shift inner」
but,

↑How about switching to a wire lead with longer legs like this?

This is a Campagnolo one, but I don't know if they still make it.

Another solution is to 「install a liner」.
The image above is an example of a full liner.

This is what a liner looks like.
Jagwire makes one that's thinner than this.
As long as the inner diameter allows the brake cable to pass through (1.6mm or larger),
the thinner option works better in various ways.
I use the Jagwire versions as well.

This end face...

Heat it with a lighter flame (tapping the flame on and off rather than holding it in the fire continuously),
and then press the end face gently with your finger (be careful, it's hot)

You can create a flange like this. It solidifies in this state once it cools.
The diameter of the flange can be adjusted as needed.

There are lots of tricks related to this, but they're secret!

And when you thread it like this, your partial liner is complete.
In this case, actually a smaller flange would work better.
If you can't pull it back out when you tug on it, you're good.

↑If the end face looks like this,
something's gone wrong, so try again.

I sometimes use this 「Yatterman coffee lighter」 (specialty lighter),
but a 100 yen lighter works fine.
Turbo lighters don't work. Lower flame intensity is better for this job.
