Don't Go Around Saying My Name...
Examples of when you SHOULDN'T say it (→here)
Examples of when it's OK to say it (→here)
My old man runs an auto repair shop out in the mountains
somewhere down in southern Osaka,
and he says on Saturdays and Sundays he often sees
groups of roadie riders whooshing past on the road
in front of the shop.
And the other day, some crew of about five people
who'd apparently ridden down from Amagasaki or Nishinomiya
came up to him asking,
"Excuse me, could we borrow a tool like a minus driver?"
He didn't have a smaller size one available,
but he lent them one anyway.
Apparently they were really going to work
on a disc brake caliper with an unusually long driver,
so this is just my guess, but I figure
they probably accidentally grabbed the brake lever
while removing the wheel to fix a puncture,
and the rotor had been rubbing ever since—
something like that.
At that point my old man struck up a conversation:
"So modern road bikes come with disc brakes these days, huh,"
and then he asked,
"You guys... do you know a shop called Nomu Lab?"
←GUILTYGUILTY
And apparently they answered,
"Yeah, we know it! They fix anything, so it's pretty famous!"
And then, to top it off,
he told them, "Actually, I'm the old man—the father
of the Nomu Lab shop owner,"
←GUILTYGUILTY
and they said, "Really?! Would it be okay if we took
a photo together?" So he went along
and took a commemorative photo with them.

When I asked him when that happened,
he said it was about three months ago.
Apparently one of those people might show up at Nomu Lab
to show me the photo on their phone, saying,
"Your dad helped us out the other day!"
I'm telling you right now: don't go around saying my name. Or I'll beat you.
