You Can Say My Name Freely

A customer left a Racing Zero (Fulcrum Racing Zero wheel) front wheel with us.

Yesterday they called and asked,
"It looks like about three spokes are bent — can you fix it?"
So I replied,
"As long as the rim isn't totaled, I can fix it.
The shop will end up covered in wheels, so I'll try to straighten it right here if possible.
Though to be honest, the shop is already covered in wheels anyway."
And they brought it in today.
By the way, this is their first time visiting our shop.

Calling the cone adjuster nut side the left side,
the spokes on the left were bent consecutively.

Fixed.

The spokes marked with tape are the ones
we replaced or temporarily removed.
The fourth spoke from the left in the image above
showed no deformation whatsoever, so I reused it,
but I completely relieved the tension temporarily
to definitively check for any damage,
so I put tape on it for work purposes.
The fourth one has tape in the opposite direction
to distinguish it from the replaced spokes.
It's pretty common for consecutive spokes
to deform like this on one side,
but you also frequently see untouched spokes
right in the middle of the damaged area—
like survivors in a disaster zone.

I've lost track of which are the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th.

When the customer who brought in this Racing Zero arrived,
I managed to guess their name and that they crashed in a brevé yesterday,
bending the spokes — and they were surprised, asking how I knew.

Actually, separately today, I inspected the front and rear wheels
of a Racing Zero Competizione that was brought in,
and that customer mentioned, "A friend crashed in the brevé yesterday,
so they might bring their Racing Zero here soon."
So I thought it might be the same person from yesterday's phone call
and asked both customers for their names.

The Competizione customer
(who's been to our shop before)
actually witnessed the Racing Zero customer's crash.
When they stopped to help and spoke to them, they said,
"You know, if you take that to Nomu Lab (のむラボ), they'll fix it right up."
That kind of thing is fine, really.

Though I'm not sure why, but with competitors,
there seems to be an unusual number of cases where
people who carelessly invoke our shop's name
end up having bad luck,
so I think it's better not to casually refer people here
just to pass the buck.
