Swapped the DX3 OneAir to Nomunabo Wheel No. 9 (32mm) (Rear wheel, part 1)

Another day with wheels (and so on).

I've sourced two rims for the Nomunabo Wheel No. 9,
which have a stated weight of 273g.
I'll be building both front and rear wheels with these rims, but

I'm rebuilding by swapping out
the rim portion of the OneAir DX3.

The DX3's rim height is 38mm,
and this No. 9 rim is 32mm tall, so
at first glance it doesn't seem like I can reuse the spokes.
But since OneAir rims have internal nipples,
when I do the math, I actually just need to cut the spokes
by just over 1mm to get the perfect length.

Today I'm tackling the rear wheel.
DT240 straight-pull spoke hub, 24H,
all-black CX-RAY, laced 2-cross forced both sides.

With wheels from Roval and Bontrager,
their OEM hubs are DT-made, so
there's an inherent constraint to use DT spokes as well.
Reynolds used to be in the same boat—when their hubs were DT-made,
they were built with DT spokes. But in the periods before and after
when they used non-DT hubs, they switched to Sapim spokes.
So the progression was: Sapim → DT → Sapim.

With this OneAir, the hub is DT-made
but it's a generic product, not proprietary design,
so there's no constraint. That's probably why
they're free to choose Sapim spokes.
Since Sapim doesn't make hubs themselves,
I can't prove it conclusively, but
my personal take is: "Wheel makers and brands,
if they have no constraint to DT regarding hubs,
would rather use Sapim spokes than DT."
That's what I believe.

The two images above are shot
aligned with the hub shell's manufacturer name and model name,

but I haven't aligned the hub shell's orientation
as seen through the valve hole to either one, so
when I rebuild it, I'm thinking I'll align it to the "240" (model name).

It's built.

I wasn't confident the spoke length would work out as-is
and I did need to cut slightly, so
I haven't swapped the rim over yet.
I didn't go with a semi-CX sprint or semi-champ
to boost the freewheel-side spoke ratio—
that was the customer's request.
In the past I tried that approach and they said the wheel felt too stiff,
so I actually rebuilt it to full CX-RAY instead.

If the spokes on both sides couldn't be reused
and a full replacement was needed, they asked me to go with silver spokes,
but it turned out I could reuse them.

I will do the truing, but to do that work
I need to remove the disc rotor.

↑ This is the hub shell's orientation as seen through the valve hole.
There are 6 flange peaks per 12H on each side, so
if I'm lacing with proper spoke holes (which of course I am),
the hub shell orientation can only be chosen from
6 positions in 60° increments,
so there's no way to align it any more precisely than this.
