Wheels again today (et cetera).

Continuing from yesterday.
I'm rebuilding the One Air DX3 front wheel
by swapping the rim to a Nøm Lab Wheel #9.

DT240 straight-pull hub
24H all-black CX-RAY laced left and right in forced 2-cross.
I forgot to mention this earlier, but the original front and rear wheels
had all final crossings woven on both sides.
I'm keeping it the same way after rebuilding.
Just like the front wheel, both sides need
the spoke length trimmed a bit.
The shorter spoke length on the left side
was nearly the same as the rebuilt right side length,
so I moved the original left spokes to the right,
cut the original right spokes to the proper length,
and used them on the left.

Just like the rear wheel, when rebuilding
I align the hub body phase I see through the valve hole
as closely as possible to the "240" marking.


Built.

I trued the rotor mount side (right side).

This rim has a clear left-right difference
in the hole centering on the inner circumference side (→here),
and you can identify which holes have tighter centering
by the hole centering on the outer circumference side.
It's possible to build a wheel while ignoring this,
but failing to understand this kind of silent assertion is a problem.
Naturally, the outer circumference holes
that are offset sideways
are the ones for spokes at an angle—
for the front wheel, that's spokes from the right flange.

I was able to build it so the spoke length
is about flush with the end face on the outer circumference side of the nipple.
The Nøm Lab Wheel #9 rim's stated weight
isn't from the rim manufacturer's specs,
but rather the actual measured weight announced by the distributor.
I don't know if this is from just one sample rim
or if they measured several and decided "we'll use this as the spec,"
but among the 32mm, 45mm, and 55mm rim heights,
the 32mm and 45mm that I've already measured multiple times
have stated weights right at "the light end of the variance range."
Which is to say, "most individual rims will be heavier than stated,"
and while I do frequently see rims that are about 10g heavier than specs,
I almost never see ones that are 10g lighter.
The actual rim weight that arrives doesn't change,
but it feels disappointing when it's heavier than stated,
so I would've appreciated slightly conservative specs.
This time, I've rebuilt the wheel by
swapping just the rim section from the One Air complete wheel,
and the original rim was about 90–100g heavier
compared to the Nøm Lab Wheel #9 rim.
I don't plan to publish the actual measured weight for this one.
