So, out of nowhere,
I sourced some Campagnolo Zonda DB wheelsets.
Actually, the Zonda DB is
officially discontinued as a global model—
it's down to remaining stock only.
But recently, one of our distributors
(who handles Campagnolo and Pinarello)
placed a special order for a limited rerun:
100 pairs, Shimano HG freebody spec only.
They've already arrived in Japan.
I found out about this when I went to a Campagnolo training session the other day. The distributor rep handed me an order form, but here's the crazy part—our shop name and account code were already filled in by hand. All I had to do was sign it. So I scribbled all over it with some crude doodles and handed it back saying, "Let's see if you can actually get this through your company," but looking at the wheels that showed up, apparently they did.
The list price is ¥110,000 (before tax), ¥121,000 (after tax). Honestly, at that price point, if you're just looking at specs on paper, you could argue for Chinese carbon-spoke, carbon-rim wheels. For a steel-spoke, aluminum-rim wheelset, it's pretty steep. That said, the Zonda is mechanically excellent—it's basically the "aluminum-rim Bora," if you will—and I genuinely recommend it as an everyday wheel.
This time around, I managed to work out pricing that comes in cheaper than the Nomura Lab 8-series wheels (black spokes, black nipples), so I'm running a special price limited to July.
The sale price is listed in the usual place.
The "(Sort Of)" in the title is there because you still see these wheels around relatively often, so it doesn't really feel like they're actually discontinued.
