About yesterday's post regarding the Rolf Prima Racing Zero "tubular"
I wrote that I checked for any deformation of the bead hook before work
「If it's tubular spec, why would you check for bead hook damage?
What exactly are you referring to?」
I received a comment like that.
You're absolutely right. Tubular rims don't have bead hooks.
I meant that I checked for any deformation on the rim's edge line,
so please forgive the confusion.
As for why I wrote "bead hook,"
it's because I had a painful experience recently.

I received a Rolf Prima Racing Zero (WO) from a customer (sort of).
The original owner isn't this customer.
The original owner had lent it to someone else for a long time,
and at the original owner's instruction, it was transferred to me from that borrower.
In that process, it seems the wheel never actually made it back
to the original owner's hands.

I cleaned the hub until it sparkled,

and then I noticed deformation on the bead hook.
Oh no no no no no
Since there's no intention to spend money on a rim replacement and keep using it,
the rear wheel became scrap.
Because that happened just a few days ago,
I did a pre-check on yesterday's Racing Zero too.
Thank you for the comment.

By the way, on the front wheel, almost all the nipples are seized and won't turn.
As I was turning a nipple while saying "Sorry if the spoke snaps!"

sure enough, it snapped.

I loosened what nipples I could loosen,
removed the hub catch, and pulled out the hub.
This eliminated the spoke tension component from the reasons why the nipples won't turn.
But even so, there are quite a few nipples that still won't budge.
They're seized, but there's almost no runout and no centering issues.
In that case it would be fine to say "just ride it like this,"
but the initial condition had a noticeable amount of centering error that I can't overlook,
so at minimum I need to turn all the nipples on at least one side.
I can't say "I can't fix it" because there are political reasons I need to maintain this relationship,
so I'll fix it no matter what... but
I just found out that the partner's rear wheel belongs to this customer (sort of),
and they're using a Novatec Carbon Hub (のむミックカーボン).
I haven't written about thatcursed rear wheel here before,
and I won't in the future either.
