I Drilled New Strap Holes in BONT Shoes

The drill is screaming!
The drill is screaming! I have lots of photos for articles like that
that I haven't posted yet, but
I found one that was just right for this opportunity.

A customer brought in BONT shoes.
The fit of the top strap was different between left and right,
making them completely unwearable, they said.

The mounting holes for the caliper buckle (that's what Sidi calls it)
were completely different between left and right. On the side that was already removed,
the strap only caught about one row,
so they wanted me to drill holes aligned with the other side.

The hole on the far side not only went through the carbon section
but also through the leather part, which felt subtly wrong...

Done.

So here's another thing to check when buying BONT shoes.
With other manufacturers, you don't need to worry about it.
Defects at this level are normally covered by exchange.

While I'm at it, I'll mention the issue with Speedplay cleats where,
when the lateral adjustability is maxed out toward the crank side, the distance from the crank is different left to right—which the distributor pushed through as "specification."
(Part 1 is →here)(Part 2 is →here
You can make them "equal left and right" by pushing one side far out and the other side close in,
but what the customer wanted was "both sides maxed out,"
so it doesn't solve the problem.
In that case, the customer did considerable back-and-forth with the shop that sold them(I'll withhold the name, but it was Silvest Cycle),
but the distributor was unmovable and the shop was immovable too,
so it ended up being self-resolution using our shop.
I'm not saying we should bust our hump fixing stuff sold elsewhere,
but at least take care of stuff you sold yourself until the very end.
