I Stocked ASHIMA's Centro Light (Part 2)

Since the adapter I stocked turned out to be the Centro Light, I figured I'd share the follow-up story.

A customer brought in tubeless tires, a 6-bolt rotor, sprocket, and other parts for installation.
The bike was ready the next day, which was a relief.
It gave me time to monitor the tubeless tire for any air loss.

The installation went smoothly, but this rotor is interesting—
it's not a solid stainless steel piece; the center hub is aluminum.

It's the SM-RT86 model,
which is Shimano's highest-grade 6-bolt rotor.

Centerlock adapters come in two types:
one where the rotor is fixed to the adapter with six bolts and then locked down with a lockring,
and another where six pins pass through the rotor and get tightened with a lockring.
DT and ASHIMA use the latter design,
while Shimano's genuine rotor adapter SM-RTAD05 uses the former.
Moreover, with the SM-RTAD05, the lockring is a bottom bracket type.

Now, a key point about Shimano's SM-RTAD05 is
that it's "not compatible with the SM-RT86".
I'd overlooked the possibility that the customer's rotor
could be an SM-RT86.

So I investigated.

Let me rewind the timeline.

The reason the Shimano adapter doesn't fit is that the outer spline shape isn't round—
it's hexagonal like a kompeito candy.
The Shimano adapter's ring has a round profile,
so it doesn't sit cleanly on this hexagonal step.

I installed the 6-pin component.
Not having to fuss with six low-profile Torx bolts is a relief.

I installed the centerlock spline component.

Perfect fit.
It fits like it was custom-made,
but logically speaking, it makes more sense that it was designed to fit this way.
So in summary, if I'd stocked the Shimano adapter without asking for the rotor model number,
the installation wouldn't have been possible.
That's the end of this ASHIMA plug, folks.
