About the Nomu Lab Wheel No. 6 Rim

Regarding the Nomu Lab Wheel No. 6 rim, I've already written that it's an unnamed version of the Reynold's 32.
Even after stripping away all labels and such, there are elements like the swirl lip that could potentially conflict with Reynold's patents and designs, so those elements have been removed as well.

Actually, the No. 6 rim is a one-time spot production item (at least that's what I was told), available only while stock lasts. With 20H and 24H at 50 pairs each offered to multiple buyers, we took 20 pairs at our shop. The rest apparently went mainly to the UK.

I thought it would sell out and be done with, but for some reason they're doing a rerun, so we ordered about 10 pairs of those as well (→here), but

the specs had changed. The rim in the upper image is the newer version. I'll call the rim in the upper image "No. 6" and the lower one "Pre-6."

The No. 6 rim has a finished brake zone, and surprisingly, it even has a swirl lip (the protrusion on the inner edge). Isn't Reynold's going to get mad about this?

The average weight of the Pre-6 rim is 305g, but the No. 6 is 285g—the No. 6 is closer to Reynold's 32. The spoke tension feels better to achieve with Pre-6. While I do match the tension at completion, Pre-6 is significantly easier to build.

The decisive difference is the price: Pre-6 is 15,000 yen cheaper per rim, so front and rear wheels work out to 138,000 yen including tax (for silver spokes). I've already sold quite a number of them, but this is the first time I've written the price of 138,000 yen here. I still have about 5 pairs of Pre-6 stock remaining, and I might build some as ready-made off-the-shelf wheels for a change. The spoke color is limited to black though.

This is Sapim's mistake, not the distributor's, but the spokes for radial lacing on the front wheel for both Pre-6 and No. 6 arrived at the distributor in custom spec with square nipples, apparently intended for some complete wheel manufacturer. I've already contacted the distributor saying "we've got these mixed in." We've arranged with the distributor so we can selectively order with or without nipples, but I doubt many shops would go out of their way to source these, so I'm actively using them on my end and have stocked a decent quantity. Apart from the fact that they can't be cut even 1mm, there are no performance issues. The desire to use up these spokes is actually another reason why I'm thinking about building some ready-made wheels.
